Phumza Maweni made her Suncorp Super Netball debut in round one of 2019 and has been a solid contributor at Goal Keeper ever since. Working in conjunction with fellow SPAR Proteas representative Karla Pretorius, Maweni has repeatedly challenged the league’s most damaging goalers with her physicality and one-on-one defensive efforts. The 34-year-old played in South Africa’s Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League and in the Vitality English Superleague for Loughorough Lightning and Severn Stars before joining the Sunshine Coast. Maweni represented South Africa in the SPAR Proteas side in the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 in July. She is also the oldest on the Lightning team, aged 34.
