Storm’s Strong Finish Pleases Coach Voge

A dominant display from Territory Storm in the final two rounds of the Deakin University Australian Netball League (DUANL) season has Coach Chris Voge confident in the athletes’ progress both individually and as a team.

Sunshine Coast Lightning’s DUANL affiliate rounded out the season with three wins in their final four games, to finish fifth on the ladder – just marginally missing out on finals netball.

“It was a really positive season for the team over the intensive seven weeks of DUANL competition,” Voge said.

“It was a really tough league with strong competition every week, backing up for two games each weekend, lots of travel and continuous preparation for the different opposition every weekend.

“As a Coach, your biggest challenges include preparing and monitoring athlete load over this seven- week competition and bringing new combinations together.”

Five wins in 2019 was a marked improvement on the singular victory last year and the competitiveness of the side in the back half of the season is promising moving forward.

“We saw vast improvements in our combinations, increased work rate across the quarters and confidence in our ability and trust in each other as a team,” she said.

“We had some mid-season injuries to Chanel Dywer and Sarahpheinna Woulf and having these athletes back on court in the last few weeks gave us extra experience and depth to draw upon.

“I was most impressed with the team’s ability to honestly and openly assess their performance each game and each week to drive continuous improvement.

“And the double win against Southern Force in the new Darwin Netball Centre was a very special achievement.”

Lightning listed players – including Peace Proscovia, Cara Koenen, Jacqui Russell and Ani Lee-Jones – regularly gained additional court time as part of the Storm lineup, as did the team’s four training partners who continued to hone their netball craft under Pathways Coach Voge.

The partnership also gives Storm players access to some of the high performance staff and facilities at USC and Lightning.

Congratulations to Territory Storm on their efforts in Season 2019.
