ROUND 3 PREVIEW: LIGHTNING V THUNDERBIRDS

Sunshine Coast Lightning will play the reigning premiers, the Adelaide Thunderbirds, this weekend in Round 3 at UniSC Arena.

Both teams are coming off losses in Round 2 so will be looking for a win to maintain a strong position on the ladder.

It will also be the first time Laura Scherian returns to the Sunshine Coast to play in front of her previous Club’s home fans.

Tickets are still available via Ticketek.

KEY MATCH UP

Cara Koenen v Shamera Sterling-Humphrey

Both of these players have put out strong performances in the first two rounds of the season and will be a key match-up to watch in Round 3.

These two sides played against eachother at Team Girls Cup with Thunderbirds coming out on top, so Lightning will be looking to keep Sterling-Humphrey away from ball and out of the game to claim the win.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Round 13 2023, Lightning (56) – Thunderbirds (54)

COACH'S COMMENT

Head Coach Belinda Reynolds said the Thunderbirds were a strong side, but the team is ready for the contest.

“They’ve got a great defensive line-up, obviously Shamira is winning a lot of ball back there. But we also have some really good history against the Thunderbirds in Round 13 of last season – I thought we played very smartly against them.

“We’ll be looking back at that footage and what they’ve done in the last few rounds to really walk towards this contest.

“We’re expecting another tough contest and we’ll have to be at our best to beat them.”
