Sunshine Coast Lightning has revealed its 2025 First Nations dress which will be worn in two Suncorp Super Netball First Nations matches this season, including this Saturday’s home game against the NSW Swifts.
The artwork, titled ‘Women’s Business’ was hand-painted by local First Nations artist and proud Kabi Kabi woman, Zartisha Davis.

Davis, who is proudly Lightning’s artist for the second year in a row, explained the meaning behind the design.
“Women’s Business portrays the sacred landscapes of Kabi Kabi Country featuring revered watering holes and significant areas and meeting places that have empowered and cleansed generations of women,” she said.
“Symbolically intertwined with Shell Middens, representing unity, stewardship, caring for country and one another, and the profound connection we all now share to Sea Country here on the Sunshine Coast, this painting pays homage to the invaluable women in our lives.

“It celebrates the women of the Sunshine Coast Lightning team, recognising their collaborative spirit and dedication to fostering not only a strong and successful team but also a supportive community, particularly with their partnerships with local First Nations Kabi Kabi community.
“Through vibrant colours and my signature Shell Midden motif, this piece not only marks a departure from last years’ work titled ‘Toolembi Watama’ but also maintains my distinctive style.

“It serves as a tribute to the Lightning women, illustrating their multifaceted roles on and off the court, within their families and in the broader Sunshine Coast community and beyond, extending the narrative of strength and unity.”
Lightning players will wear the 2025 First Nations dress this weekend against the NSW Swifts, and again in Round 13 for the second week of First Nations Round.
