Sunshine Coast Lightning has announced Leesa Mi Mi has signed with the Club for the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Mi Mi was a Training Partner at the Queensland Firebirds last season and played five SSN games as a temporary replacement player.
Known for her immense speed and ability to play multiple mid-court positions, Mi Mi recently played for the North Brisbane Cougars in the HART Sapphire Series and the Firebirds Futures side in the Australian National Championships.
Lightning Head Coach Belinda Reynolds said Mi Mi was a player to watch and has already been impressive with limited court time at the SSN level.
“Leesa is incredibly determined and eager to take her game to the next level, and I’m looking forward to working with her in 2024 to do that,” she said.
“While only playing five SSN games, I’ve been impressed with her speed, composure and ability to feed the ball. As a Netball Queensland pathways athlete, it’s fantastic to be able to foster that and keep her playing in the state.”
Mi Mi said it was a big move to the Sunshine Coast, but she’s excited to take the opportunity with both hands.
“I decided to sign with Lightning because I’ve heard about the amazing culture and support the coaching staff give to the athletes,” she said.
“I am so excited to learn and grow not only as a player but also a person. It’s my first time moving out of home and my family are such a big part of my life. But I’ve been lucky to come into a group that already feels like my second family.
“I can’t wait to play some quality netball and learn from some incredible players. Also life on the Sunshine Coast has already been a treat.”
