Sunshine Coast Lightning will host the NSW Swifts this weekend at UniSC Arena for a practice match ahead of the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball Season.

Sizable crowds are expected to flock to UniSC Arena, with Lightning fans eager to get a glimpse of the new-look side.

Lightning Head Coach Belinda Reynolds said she’s looking forward to building on the learnings from the recent pre-season matches.

“Swifts have been a successful side the last few years, so we know it’ll be a tough contest — which is exactly what we need right now,” she said.

“We’ve had a lot of learnings from our recent trips to Melbourne and most recently Townsville, so to understand what we need to work on in training is so valuable in the pre-season.

“I’m really excited about what we have put out there so far and to continue to build on those combinations.”

Steph Fretwell said the match will provide a good benchmark on how the team is progressing.

“I love to go up against the Swifties. They were incredible last year so it’ll be a good chance for us to see where we’re at,” she said.

“No matter when you meet them — if it’s in pre-season or in season — they’re really physical, they get up in your face, especially their defence.

The pre-season match will take place at UniSC Arena on Saturday, 9 March at 3pm and will not be livestreamed.
