Mahalia Cassidy will return to Sunshine Coast Lightning for the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball Season.
Cassidy first signed with Lightning in 2021, and in 2022 received the two highest awards at Lightning’s 2022 Gala — the Players’ Player and Most Valuable Player awards.
With the ability to play all three mid-court positions, Cassidy’s versatility paired with her determination and strong work ethic, make her an invaluable member of the Club. She is also a much-loved member of the Sunshine Coast region and regularly volunteers her time to make meaningful contributions to those in the community.
Lightning Head Coach Belinda Reynolds said she was thrilled to welcome back Cassidy into the Lightning outfit for 2024.
“Mahalia provides a strong, steady head out there for us in the mid-court and is an incredibly important piece of our playing group,” she said.
“She has a ‘never-say-die’ attitude and you know that she will give her absolute all to every game she plays. Her versatility across the mid-court is also especially impressive.”
Cassidy said she thoroughly enjoyed her first season with Belinda Reynolds as Head Coach, and is looking forward to see the team grow next season.
“I honestly really love the Club — the people in it and everything that it stands for. This past season I have loved and valued the time I’ve gotten learning under Belinda. I just want more of it! I feel challenged, fulfilled and most importantly a real sense of enjoyment being at Lightning,” she said.
“I was thrilled to find out I was returning to the Club. We finished last season with some really great performances and I believe we can take that confidence and run with it in season 2024.”
Cassidy is the first player to be announced in Lightning’s 2024 roster.
