ANOTHER DEVASTATING INJURY BLOW TO THE LIGHTNING CAMP

Sunshine Coast Lightning has announced Permanent Replacement Player, Shannon Eagland has ruptured her ACL during Sunday’s Round 7 match against the West Coast Fever.

During the fourth quarter of the match, Eagland experienced an awkward landing and was immediately taken off court, with scans later revealing the same injury she experienced in 2017.

After Australian Diamond defender Tara Hinchliffe suffered the same injury during the pre-season tournament, Eagland was elevated into the squad to see out the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season.

Lightning Head Coach Belinda Reynolds says she is saddened by the news for Eagland who had been settling into her new team well.

“I am absolutely devastated for Shannon who has recently moved over from Perth and joined the team here on the Sunshine Coast,” she said.

“Shannon has been a great addition to our team. She’s been performing well on court, she’s a real team player who has been a great fit for our culture and it’s incredibly disappointing this has happened to her.

“Shannon has suffered this injury before and I have complete faith she will return to the sport after her rehabilitation.”

A replacement player will be recruited in the coming weeks.
