Sunshine Coast Lightning will again welcome the Suncorp Super Netball competition to Queensland to play out the final 3 rounds of the 2021 season proper.
A hub has been formed within the state and we are hopeful to see games played out of both USC Stadium and Nissan Arena, while the league is also investigating other options if required.
The decision to move the league to Queensland was made after the increasing COVID-19 restrictions and a hard lockdown in South Australia made the Adelaide hub plans untenable.
Four of the Adelaide based clubs yesterday travelled to Queensland, whilst West Coast Fever relocated today.
GIANTS Netball will fly to Queensland today after there was an issue yesterday with their travel declarations that has since been resolved.
Unfortunately NSW Swifts’ Head Coach Briony Akle and their team’s physio were forced to remain in SA after being named as close contacts to a Tier 1 exposure site during their time in Victoria last fortnight.
The health and wellbeing of the athletes, league and team staff and relevant communities are at the forefront of all decisions, as the SSN endeavours to complete the full 60 match season.
As a Club, Lightning acknowledges the incredible sacrifices that athletes, coaches, staff and umpires are making to ensure this season goes through to its full completion and will continue to reach out and band together to ensure player and personal welfare.
Lightning, in collaboration with Netball Australia, Netball Queensland and the Queensland Firebirds, demonstrated the success of holding a hub within the state throughout Season 2020 and will strive to replicate that again in the coming weeks.
Lightning is calling on Members, Partners and the entire Sunshine Coast community to embrace this opportunity to again host the world’s premier netball competition and its clubs.
The Club hopes through this process that we will be able to welcome our loyal Members and fans to USC Stadium once again in Season 2021.
Further fixturing information will be released by SSN in due course and Lightning remains dedicated to keeping its Members and fans up to date.
