Sunshine Coast Lightning has announced Leesa Mi Mi will miss Round 1 against the Melbourne Mavericks due to a minor calf injury.
Sunshine Coast pathway product, Baylee Boyd, will replace Mi Mi in the game day squad and will make her SSN debut if she takes the court.
“Leesa is back at training after sustaining a minor calf injury that saw her miss Team Girls Cup, but unfortunately she’s not quite ready for this weekend,” Lightning Head Coach, Belinda Reynolds said.
“We didn’t want to rush her return, and I have complete faith in our medical staff who will work closely with Leesa to get her back on the SSN court very soon.
“While it’s unfortunate to not see Leesa out there this weekend, it provides a really exciting opportunity for young gun, Baylee Boyd to potentially make her SSN debut.
“Baylee is a Sunshine Coast local who has come through the school and Queensland pathways while living regionally on the Coast.
“It’s really exciting to see a Sunshine Coast product make their way to the top level, and I’m looking forward to see what she can do.”
