What The Players Are Up To This Offseason

After another finals campaign in 2021, the Sunshine Coast Lightning players are taking a well earned break.

But the offseason hasn’t come without exciting announcements, plenty of dog walks on the beach and … more netball.

Firstly, congratulations to our Vice Captain Steph Wood who announced her engagement to Marcus.

Wood has had a busy ‘offseason’ also joining fellow shooter Cara Koenen for an intensive Australian Diamonds training camp.

While the series against the English Roses had to be called off due to Covid-19 border restrictions, the Australian representative side based themselves on the Sunshine Coast for a number of weeks to come together as a team.

Pets (especially dogs) form a bit part of Lightning life!

Turns out Laura Scherian couldn’t stand missing out any longer.

The Wing Attack recently adopted the adorable ‘Belle’ and welcomed her to the Lightning family.

Of course our trusty Captain is out on her own adventure.

Karla Pretorius made time to visit her sister in Doha before travelling home to South Africa for the offseason.

She is currently preparing to compete in the SPAR Proteas series across Europe alongside former Lightning defender Phumza Maweni.

Keep an eye on the Lightning website for more player updates throughout the offseason!
