Lightning Hold Host Of SSN Records

As the only Suncorp Super Netball Club to compete in five consecutive finals’ series, Sunshine Coast Lightning also qualify for a number of other current league records.

The quiet achievers of the competition are currently level to NSW Swifts in regards to SSN Premierships, with one additional Grand Final appearance on the books.

Lightning officially boasts the highest numbers of games played in the SSN (80) – one more game than GIANTS Netball – due to the repeat finals’ appearances.

Subsequently Karla Pretorius and Laura Scherian have played more games of SSN netball than any of their peers, having featured in each of Lightning’s matches.

When tallying across five years, Lightning have also played in more finals (ten) than their opponents – again GIANTS are runners up with eight finals to their name.

The Club has registered more victories than any other, with 52 wins across the five seasons.

Their incredible success so far has them in fact sitting nine wins in front of Melbourne Vixens and ten wins in front of the GIANTS’ record.

Looking across the league at individual records, a number of LIghtning’s foundation players feature.

Surprisingly (or perhaps not) Steph Wood holds the record for most centre pass receives across five years (1391) according to Champion Data.

Former Lightning turned Collingwood Magpie Kelsey Browne ranks second with 1364 and Lightning’s Scherian isn’t too far behind, coming in sixth with 1123.

The Club Captain relies on her actions more than talk – having accumulated 233 intercepts in five seasons – with West Coast Fever’s Courtney Bruce in second place with 200.
