Lightning announces SN Reserves squad

Sunshine Coast Lightning has announced the athletes who will compete in the newly created Super Netball Reserves competition.

The program – featuring seven Suncorp Super Netball teams – aims to bolster high performance opportunities, and will run over five weeks from June 1 to July 7.

Super Netball Reserves will feature athletes who are in or on the cusp of Suncorp Super Netball, including training partners, state league players and other athletes.

Storm Group CEO Justin Rodski said the new program will only continue to bolster elite pathways for talented athletes.

“The introduction of the SN Reserves competition is a great addition to the Suncorp Super Netball and I’m looking forward to seeing how the pilot program performs,” he said.

“We have so much incredible talent in Queensland, and this only provides further development opportunities for players who are on the cusp of playing in the SSN.”

The Lightning SN Reserves squad features Lightning’s eleventh player Maddie Hinchliffe, training partners Shannon Eagland, Charlie Bell, Annie Miller, Jada Delaney and Baylee Boyd, along with a number of Sunshine Coast Thunder and Netball Queensland athletes.

Lightning SN Reserves Head Coach Jenny Brazel said she was looking forward to working with the team.

“I have such a strong emotional connection to this group of athletes and I am so excited to work with them to further develop their skills. We have great balance in our team with both experienced players and a combination of exciting youth, which I believe will be our recipe for success” she said.

“As someone who is incredibly passionate about providing development and pathway opportunities, this competition is critical for the elite competition.”

The Sunshine Coast Lightning SN Reserves team will take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds this Saturday, 1 June at 3.45pm at UniSC Arena. Following this match, Sunshine Coast Lightning will take on the West Coast Fever in Round 8 of the Suncorp Super Netball.
