The Sunshine Coast Lightning travel down the highway in Round 13 of the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season to take on the Queensland Firebirds.
With the Queensland Cup and bragging rights up for the grabs the Lightning will be looking to make it two wins on the trot.
This will be the second match up between the two sides this year, with the Lightning getting the four points in Round 2 and need only a win to retain the Queensland Cup.
Lightning Head Coach, Belinda Reynolds was full of optimism as her side continues its late push for a finals berth.
“Where there is a hope, there is a way and that has been the messaging to the group this week,” Reynolds said.
“We were really happy with the output against the GIANTS on the weekend to have our attack and defence end firing at the same time.
“We’re excited to be playing against our cross-town rivals, to be playing for the Queensland Cup, it is another great opportunity for the girls to keep building some momentum.”
The matchup between New Zealand compatriots Karin Burger and Te Paea Selby-Rickit will be an intriguing battle as the two lock horns for the second time this season.
The pair are set to go toe-to-toe with the Lightning defensive end firing on all cylinders last week, Burger playing a large part with a strong performance.
Selby-Rickit has been one of the Firebirds most consistent performers both feeding into the circle and under the post with Burger’s form set to be challenged by her countrywoman.
This one will be one to watch for Lightning fans as the Sunshine Coast look to retain the Queensland Cup.
Saturday’s first pass is from 7pm at Nissan Arena, come cheer on your Lightning.
