What You Need To Know About Netball World Cup

The Vitality Netball World Cup is just around the corner!

But what does that mean for Sunshine Coast Lightning, its players and, of course its valued partners and fans?

You might have noticed a four-week hiatus in the Suncorp Super Netball season in 2019.

That’s because a number of our athletes will be travelling to compete in the Vitality Netball World Cup between July 12 – 21.

Where is the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup Held?

This year the World Cup will head to England, held in Liverpool.

So why does the SSN break begin in June?

A lot of the teams converge before the World Cup to undergo training camps, to strengthen their on court combinations, learn the new structures and ultimately get to know each other.

Who is involved in the Vitality Netball World Cup from Sunshine Coast Lightning?

At Lightning we are in the rare position of having five players and our coach all heading to the UK to take part.

Australian Samsung Diamonds: Steph Wood

New Zealand Silver Ferns: Laura Langman (Captain), Noeline Taurua (Head Coach)

SPAR Proteas: Karla Pretorius (Vice-Captain), Phumza Maweni

Ugandan She-Cranes: Peace Proscovia (Captain)

How can we watch the Vitality Netball World Cup?

Like the Suncorp Super Netball competition, Channel Nine own the rights in Australia for the broadcast and will be showing every match in the World Cup. Diamonds matches will be broadcast live on Nine’s Wide World of Sports and all matches will be able to be streamed on 9Now.

Will the World Cup impact the final rounds of the Suncorp Super Netball competition?

Concessions have been made for the remaining rounds in the SSN, with clubs allowed to increase their playing squad from 10 to 12 in the first two rounds back (round 10 – 11). All 12 players will be allowed to sit on the bench and be substituted onto the court at any stage of the game.

The regular 10 player squad will then resume from round 12 onwards and into the finals series.
