Update On The 2020 Season From CEO Danielle Smith
Dear Members and fans,
Today the Super Netball League Commission (SNLC) announced that the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season will be deferred and will not commence prior to 30 June.
As a Club, we fully endorse the proactive and measured approach taken by the SNLC and their COVID-19 taskforce.
A difficult decision had to be made to protect the community and to ensure we, as a code, play our role in reducing the spread of COVID-19.
These decisions have not been made lightly. The SNLC will review the situation before the end of May to ascertain if further postponement to the season is required, based on the latest medical advice and government regulations.
The ultimate goal is still to play out a full SSN season of 14 rounds, plus finals, if and when it is deemed safe by government and health authorities to do so.
The Deakin University Australian Netball League (DUANL) season will also be deferred until at least 30 June.
Everyone at Lightning is eager to eventually be back out on court playing the game we all love, however, the health and wellbeing of the wider community must take precedence right now.
Sunshine Coast Lightning is a Club built for and with the community, and now more than ever, we need to support each other and show compassion, as we continue to navigate through these uncertain times.
We understand that many of you have questions around the season. As the situation changes rapidly each day, unfortunately we don’t have all the answers yet. We will continue to keep you informed and updated as we know more.
Our sincere thoughts are with those directly impacted by COVID-19 and members in the community who are experiencing hardship at this time.
We have a responsibility to the community and to each other during this challenging time. Please, listen to the advice and warnings from government and health authorities and take care.
Thank you Lightning family, for your patience, understanding and ongoing passion.
