#1 Steph Wood
- Position: GA/WA
- Previously Played With: NSW Swifts
- Age: 25
- Height: 175
- Place of Birth: Australia
A Sunshine Coast native, Wood relished the opportunity of training and playing alongside arguably the world’s best Goal Shooter in Caitlin Bassett during the 2017 Suncorp Super Netball season.
With maturity, speed and netball smarts, Wood was a pivotal figure at Lightning’s attacking end week in, week out. Despite missing the first few rounds with injury, the playmaker went on to star for the side in the national competition. Her ability to see the play before it unfolds was a big asset for Noelene Taura’s team.
The Goal Attack, who’s also comfortable at Wing Attack, had redemption following the foundation Club’s premiership title after coming agonisingly close in the 2015 and 2016 Trans-Tasman Netball League Grand Finals with her former side, New South Wales. Her court craft was too much to handle for GIANTS Netball in the decider and her 16-goal haul nearly earned her MVP honours.
Her consistent performances were noted by Australian Diamonds selectors and she earned selection in the national squad for the 2017 Constellation Cup and helped guide the Aussies to a 4-0 series whitewash.
Wood will represent Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games following an outstanding Quad Series tournament in England and South Africa and will be joined on the Gold Coast by Lightning shooting partner, Caitlin Bassett.
