Sunshine Coast Lightning’s Extended Squad Revealed

Sunshine Coast Lightning have named training partners Ashlee Unie and Sienna Allen as the extended squad members for round 10 and 11 of the Suncorp Super Netball league.

Each SSN team will have a 12 player squad to draw on in the first two rounds after the Vitality Netball World Cup, to help counteract any fatigue or injury concerns.

This is the second time Unie has been elevated from training partner onto the Lightning squad – after being utilised as injury coverage in round three of 2017.

The defender was this month named USC Thunder’s inaugural captain in the Sapphire Series and co-captained Lightning’s Australian Netball League (ANL) affiliate Territory Storm earlier this year.

The 23-year-old is a Sunshine Coast local, progressing through the junior ranks before earning her spot as a Lightning training partner.

South Australian native Allen was also instrumental for Territory Storm in the ANL, predominantly playing at goal keeper and is currently playing as part of USC Thunder.

The 20-year-old can step into the goal defence position where needed.

Lightning have five matches remaining in the home and away season, beginning with a Queensland derby against the Firebirds on Saturday afternoon.

The extended squad will remain in effect for the round 11 top of the table clash against NSW Swifts at USC Stadium.

From round 12 onwards the regular Suncorp Super Netball squad of ten will resume.
