Suncorp Super Netball Round 7 team of the week

SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS COMMENTATOR AND CREATOR OF ‘THE CENTURIONS’ STAGE SHOW, SUE GAUDION, SHARES HER SELECTIONS FOR TEAM OF THE WEEK FOR ROUND 7.

GS – Mwai Kumwenda (Melbourne Vixens)
Plenty of great GS performances this weekend but Mawi Kumwenda stood up under the pressure of a classy opponent in Sharni Layton. She only missed two goals for the game scoring 33 goals from 35 attempts.

GA – Tegan Philip  (Melbourne Vixens)
Hard not to place Kumwenda’s partner in crime at GA this week.  Converting 27 goals, Tegan Philip is revitalising the moving GA role with the ability to contribute effectively on the scoreboard as well.

WA – Liz Watson (Melbourne Vixens)
This was a tough call between Liz Watson and NSW Swifts’ Paige Hadley.  Watson getting the vote based solely on a full 60 minute performance.  So reliable with the ball, and is having her best season to date.

C – Serena Guthrie (GIANTS Netball)
Best game this season for Serena Guthrie. Stepping up in the absence of captain Kimberlee Green, Guthrie found good space, solid feeds and continued to please defensively.

WD – Laura Langman (Sunshine Coast Lightning)
Up front I will say a quiet week all round for WDs. Laura Langman gets the vote based solely on her load of work done in attack for the Lightning.  Unstoppable bringing ball through court and setting up some great passages of play for her team.

GD – Kate Shimmin  (Queensland Firebirds)
I have to admit I have made this decision based solely on the statistics.  The reason, I found it hard to pick a stand out GD, but watched more ‘solid performances’ from this position in Round 7. Kate Shimmin with more intercepts, even after sending her self accidentally to the bench!

GK – Geva Mentor (Sunshine Coast Lightning)
A weekend for goal keepers to shine so a tough selection but Geva Mentor continues to turn up at the right team when her team needs her the most. A shout out to Fever’s Courtney Bruce who was terrific but against an easier opponent.
