Suncorp Super Netball Round 11 Team Of The Week

Via Suncorp Super Netball

FORMER AUSTRALIAN CAPTAIN AND WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS COMMENTATOR SHARELLE MCMAHON SHARES HER SELECTIONS FOR ROUND 11 TEAM OF THE WEEK.

GS – Mwai Kumwenda (Melbourne Vixens)
With Caitlin Bassett putting up 37/37, a standout performance was needed to knock her out of this position. With 43/47, Kumwenda delivered. The variation in her play allowed her to find space with ease and her connection with Liz Watson is stunning to watch.

GA – Stephanie Wood (Sunshine Coast Lightning)
Another tough choice with Tegan Philip nailing the most goals for a GA this round with 23/27, but it was Wood who gets the nod…just. In a torrid game she was strong and steady and found space exceptionally well in the circle with Bassett, scoring 19/23.

WA – Liz Watson (Melbourne Vixens)
52 circle feeds, 31 goal assists, the most ever in a SSN match. Watson was strong, dynamic, steady and finessed, against Diamonds WD Gabi Simpson, no less. She is the driving force in an impressive Vixens outfit.

C – Serena Guthrie (GIANTS Netball)
Guthrie had a solid game in a Giants team still looking for answers in the midcourt. Her move from WA to C in the second quarter gave them a spark and her four intercepts and four deflections were impressive in defence.

WD – Renae Ingles (Adelaide Thunderbirds)
Ingles is back! She took three intercepts and had five deflections in her best performance for the year. Her trademark hassling hands over pressure and tight defence was backed up by her dynamic attacking play through court

GD – Jo Weston (Melbourne Vixens)
Weston had a standout performance with five intercepts and five deflections. She was at her annoying best and got under the skin of Gretel Tippett. She is unorthodox, but this week showed her ability to turn ball over.

GK – Geva Mentor (Sunshine Coast Lightning)
While her numbers weren’t huge (two intercepts, six deflections), Mentor kept Thwaites to her second lowest total for the season, 33 goals. She won the battle against one of the best, if not, the best goaler in the league, even forcing her to be moved out to GA.
