It is with sadness Sunshine Coast Lightning advises Head Coach Noeline Taurua’s father, Kingi Taurua, passed away yesterday following a battle with cancer.
Ms Taurua flew home to be with her family last week, prompting Assistant Coach Kylee Byrne to assume head coaching duties for the Round 4 match against the Magpies on 20 May.
Byrne will fill the role once again on 27 May for the Round 5 game against Adelaide Thunderbirds, with support from Lightning’s Development Coach, Christine Voge.
Kingi Taurua, a Ngāpuhi elder, is well known within New Zealand. He was a strong advocate for Maori rights, an award-winning broadcaster, an advisor to government ministers and a Vietnam War veteran.
The Club’s thoughts are with Noeline and her family during this difficult time.
