Pretorius and Maweni Back On Queensland Soil

A cheer circulated at Sunshine Coast Lightning training earlier this week when news broke that South African teammates Karla Pretorius and Phumza Maweni were on route back to Australia.

Head Coach Kylee Byrne confirmed today that the pair are currently in quarantine in Brisbane and will re-join the main group in a fortnight’s time.

“I’m very happy to announce that they are in quarantine, they have landed in Australia,” Byrne said.

“There were huge sighs of relief from everyone within the Club.

“We were stalking the flight from Doha a couple of days ago and when we saw it had taken off, there was a bit of a scream of excitement right in the middle of training.

“They are in quarantine, so we will see them in two weeks.”

The Club are working hard to ensure that apt fitness equipment is delivered to the hotels, so the circle defenders can continue pre-season preparations.

While Maweni and Pretorius spent time with family in South Africa over Summer they were also integrated into the Lightning pre-season program, with strength and conditioning programs to complete.

The defenders were also involved in the Netball South Africa program over their break.
