Kate Shimmin bolstered Lightning’s defensive stocks as a new addition to the 2021 squad, bringing both experience and a strong work ethic to the Club. She possesses the unique ability to play across each of Goal Keeper, Goal Defence and Wing Defence, with the possibility of more midcourt time in 2022.
Shimmin notched her 100th National League Match the first time she stepped out on court for Lightning Round 1 of 2021. She went on to be awarded the 2021 Team Spirit Award at the Club’s annual awards night.
The English Roses player, who formerly played for both Adelaide Thunderbirds and Queensland Firebirds, is known for her competitive flair and versatility in the defensive circle. A Lightning fan favourite already, Shimmin has history with Lightning Head Coach Kylee Byrne, who previously coached her while attending the Australian Institute of Sport.
