Maweni To Represent Proteas In SPAR Challenge

Sunshine Coast Lightning defender Phumza Maweni has been named in the Spar Proteas team set to take on the England Vitality Roses in a three game series this weekend.

Maweni was officially selected in the 12-athlete squad today, after participating in a wider training camp this week.

Maweni was part of the South African side that competed in the Netball World Cup in July, reaching the Semi Final stage for the first time since 1995.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper has 64 test caps for the Spar Proteas ahead of this tournament.

The three games will take place in Cape Town from the 29 November through to 1 December 2019.

Fellow South African Karla Pretorius ruled herself out of selection on a “rest and recovery break”.

The Spar Challenge International Netball Series will take place at Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town from 29 November 2019.
