Lightning Trio To Feature In Diamonds v All Stars Clash

Three Sunshine Coast Lightning athletes will take to the court in the Australian Diamonds v Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) All Stars exhibition match on Sunday 1 March 2020 in Sydney.

Diamond Laura Scherian will face off against Lightning teammates turned SSN All Stars Laura Langman and Karla Pretorius in the charity fundraiser, with proceeds to benefit the Australian bushfire appeals.

Lightning Head Coach Kylee Byrne is pleased to see strong representation from the Club in the exhibition match and reiterated Lightning’s commitment to supporting the bushfire recovery efforts.

“It’s wonderful to see Laura, Laura and Karla named in the Diamonds and All Stars teams respectively and they have the full endorsement of the Club,” Byrne said.

“All four players spoke about the honour of being recognised with selection for this match and more importantly how their involvement will directly help those who have been affected by the devastating fires we’ve seen around the country.”

The game serves as one of many initiatives in which Netball Australia, SSN Clubs and member organisations are contributing to the Australian Bushfire Recovery efforts.

Funds raised will be donated to a Natural Disaster Relief Fund, which has been established by the Confident Girls Foundation.

The purpose of this specific fund is to support netball-specific bushfire relief and recovery projects.

Tickets to the All Stars exhibition match will go on sale from 12pm AEST Thursday 30 January via Ticketek.

The Australian Diamonds squad will go head to head against the SSN All Stars on Sunday 1 March 2020 from 12pm AEST at Qudos Bank Arena.

The game will be broadcast live across all Australia states and territories on Channel 9 and streamed on the Netball Live Official App.

Diamonds Head Coach Lisa Alexander said the game will garner international attention as it showcases some of the world’s best netballers, all while benefiting a meaningful cause.

“This will truly be a spectacle for netball fans right across the globe,” Alexander said.

“To have the world’s best netballers all taking to the one court in a game is going to be a sight to behold.
“I’m honoured to be part of this match and so proud of our elite netball program and netball in Australia in being able to pull this brilliant event together in such a short timeframe to support our communities who have been affected by these devastating fires.”
