Lightning To Align With Netball ACT’s Capital Darters in ANL
Sunshine Coast Lightning is pleased to announce that it will partner with Netball ACT and the Capital Darters in the Deakin University Australian Netball League (ANL) in 2020.
The affiliation will provide Lightning athletes and training partners the opportunity to develop their craft and compete in the premier ANL competition this upcoming season.
Lightning Head Coach Kylee Byrne said the partnership with Netball ACT provides a platform for squad members and training partners to gain valuable court time against quality competition.
“The ANL league is an important competition pathway for our emerging players and aligning with the reinvigorated Capital Darters gives our athletes the best opportunity to show that they are ready to step up to SSN and play finals netball,” Byrne said.
“Competing for the Darters in the ANL, in addition to Lightning’s existing pathways including USC Thunder, will only benefit our players and fast-track their development.
“We look forward to working closely with Netball ACT to deliver a competitive program in 2020.”
Netball ACT CEO David Marjoribanks said the rebooted Capital Darters will provide Canberra based athletes the opportunity to pursue their netball dreams, further strengthened by the Lightning partnership.
“Netball ACT, in partnership with Sunshine Coast Lightning, is thrilled to introduce the Capital Darters as the ACT’s flagship netball team,” Marjoribanks said.
“We are looking forward to the Capital Darters’ on court performances once the competition commences in May and to a strong and productive partnership with Sunshine Coast Lightning.”
The Capital Darters will return to the competition in 2020, as a rebranding of the Canberra Darters who competed in the 2008 to 2016 ANL seasons.
Lightning players and Training Partners have been excited to commence preseason training in the gym and on the court this week in preparation for the 2020 SSN and DUANL seasons.
