Lightning seeking swift passage into finals
Sunshine Coast Lightning will play host to its final home game of the Suncorp Super Netball home and away season when it takes on NSW Swifts this weekend.
Lightning Head Coach Noeline Taurua said with such a tight contest for the top four, we are excited by the challenges this game will present.
“This is an opportunity for us to put out one of our best performances not only for us as a Club but also for the Sunshine Coast community.
Taurua said following a loss against NSW Swifts earlier in the season, Lightning wasn’t taking anything for granted going into the Round 13 clash.
“Swifts are always quite a tenacious group and they do the simple things well,” she said.
“They’re young and one of their strengths is they tend to play their full squad, which makes it difficult to analyse them.
“Helen Housby is a king ping in the attacking end. She’s definitely come of age as an international shooter.
Both her and Sam Wallace were very dominant in the circle when we last met so we’re very conscious of that going into this weekend’s game.”
Taurua said Lightning players were in a good headspace leading into the match and would be looking to improve on their Round 7 performance.
“I think the first quarter against Swifts we were down by 10 and we were always in chase-up mode.
“We’ve been more consistent from quarter to quarter since then, so we’re looking to maintain that momentum.
“Our focus will be on creating opportunities to turn over the ball and put it through the hoop when we do have it in hand.
“At this point, Swifts have got nothing to lose and I think that will show on the court.”
Lightning will take on NSW Swifts at USC Stadium on Saturday, 28 July. The match will be broadcast live on the Nine Network and Netball Live app from 3pm AEST.
