Lightning Ready To Host Second Queensland Derby
A heated dual between Sunshine Coast Lightning and Queensland Firebirds is expected for Sunday at USC Stadium.
The Queensland derbies have garnered a reputation for often being hard-fought to the end and given Firebirds’ recent strong form, Lightning is expecting nothing less.
“We’re expecting a big, strong tussle against Firebirds this weekend,” Russell said.
“They’ve really hit some form lately these last few games and we’re certainly aware of that, so we will be looking to come out really strong.”
Firebirds have won their last two games against Adelaide Thunderbirds and second placed NSW Swifts.
Russell said that while Lightning have addressed their starts, their sustained efforts is still an area in need of improvement.
“We’ve been starting well and having good first quarters, so that will be important… but we want to be able to put that into a 60 minute performance,” she said.
“We will need to do that in order to beat the Firebirds.”
Lightning will play the Queensland Firebirds at USC Stadium on Sunday 13 September 2020 from 1pm.
