Lightning Ready For Giant Clash

Greater consistency across four quarters will be front of mind for Sunshine Coast Lightning as they take on Giants Netball for the second time this season.

When the two sides met in Round 5, Lightning rallied in the fourth quarter with 17 goals to 8 to secure the win.

Assistant Coach Christine Voge said the team want to exert more control throughout the match, so they are not presented with a similar situation come Sunday.

“We’re ready for them. We had a look this week at some of their structures and things they’ve done in the last couple of games,” she said.

“Because we’re playing so regularly, if we only look back at our game, we miss other elements that may have developed.

“Even looking back at their match with [Melbourne] Vixens recently was important as well.”

Giants are coming off a 20 goal loss to ladder leaders Vixens, adding even more motivation to put in a strong showing against Lightning.

The Sunshine Coast side defeated Adelaide Thunderbirds by six goals in Round 9 but Voge believes we haven’t seen the best of Lightning yet in 2020.

Midcourter Laura Scherian also highlighted the need for more sustained efforts across four quarters from Lightning if they are to continue to challenge top tier teams.

“We are just focused on what we are going to do as a group and what we put out there,” Scherian said.

“We really want to bring some more consistency to our game, playing a full 15 minutes in each quarter and then moving onto the next.”
