Lightning Prepared For Fever Re-Match
Sunshine Coast Lightning has been building in momentum ahead of Tuesday’s clash against West Coast Fever, in what is set to be a heated re-match.
A loss to Fever in Round 8 proved a catalyst for Lightning, who have since secured wins against Adelaide Thunderbirds and Giants Netball.
Midcourter Maddy McAuliffe said the team took an introspective look at themselves after the loss and used the opportunity to refocus on the style of netball they want to put out on court.
“We’ve had more of a focus on ourselves in between playing Fever to now,” McAuliffe said.
“It’s been a tight turn around since the Giants game on Sunday – we’ve only had one day in between.
“We’re taking a lot of momentum from that game – we had a great finish which was fantastic, so hopefully we can build on that.”
Fever have seen a recent string of success having not lost a game since Round 7 against Magpies.
Their strong form has been aided by the dominance of shooter Jhaniele Fowler who has converted 156 more goals than any other shooter in the league this season.
Lightning’s ability to slow down Fever’s ball movement will be pivotal in shutting down their attack end.
“Fever have an amazing attack end and in our previous game we had one of our worst defensive games,” she said.
“We’ve definitely built over the past two games and we’ll take that into our next Fever match, starting a lot stronger.”
