Lightning Games Live From 2022

Netball Australia, Suncorp Super Netball Commission and Foxtel Group have today announced a landmark five-year broadcast and digital rights deal which will see all Sunshine Coast Lightning games available across Foxtel and Kayo Sport from 2022.

The announcement is another step forward for the world’s premier netball competition, allowing every game of the Suncorp Super Netball to be broadcast live and ad-free from next season.

The new deal will ensure the competition remains highly accessible to its growing legion of fans, while also securing a significant increase in investment in match production.

According to the league, the ground-breaking agreement greatly bolsters the competition’s financial position, enabling the league to cover the full salaries of players from all eight teams for the first time in SSN history.

Two games per round will remain available free to air to viewers through Kayo Freebies, in addition to all finals fixtures and Origin Australia Diamond matches (excluding the Netball World Cup and Commonwealth Games which are governed by alternate broadcast deals).

Sunshine Coast Lightning CEO Danielle Smith welcomed the security and growth opportunity that the new broadcast rights deal ensures and said the partnership will benefit clubs, partners and, of course, Members and fans.

“The next five-year cycle is pivotal for the continued growth and professionalism of the Suncorp Super Netball competition and this broadcast deal is strategically a step in the right direction. There was significant growth in Super Netball’s digital viewership in 2020, so we believe this new deal is forward thinking in how people will be consuming sport,” Smith said.

“The League’s ability to broker significantly improved terms for the broadcast and digital rights certainly puts us on the pathway to financial sustainability and confirms the demand for, and the quality of the SSN product.

“To have all Super Netball games broadcast live each week is an excellent result and it’s exciting to see Foxtel Group and Kayo heavily investing in Australia’s number 1 female sport.  We’re looking forward to working together to continue to grow the profile of the game and our incredible athletes through innovative marketing, match day production and new content.

“We anticipate today’s announcement will benefit clubs, corporate partners and Members and fans alike and we look forward to exploring how we can enhance the Lightning experience in 2022 and beyond.”

The 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season will remain under the current broadcast agreement between Channel 9 and TelstraTV.
