Lightning face Vixens in final SSN round

In a repeat of the 2017 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) Semi Final, Sunshine Coast Lightning and Melbourne Vixens will square up at Hisense Arena this Sunday with both teams fighting for dominance.

Lightning Head Coach Noeline Taurua said with the game signalling the end of the regular SSN season, the team was eager to make its mark on the court.

“I think both teams definitely want to put their best foot forward leading into finals,” Taurua said.

“For us to be away and to play against a well-disciplined team like the Vixens, we’re definitely going to need to come out firing.”

Taurua said she felt the two teams matched up well against one another.

“Like every game, I think this match will be about the team that can work together, absorb pressure and execute under pressure.

“It’s essentially the old cliché of being able to do that for 60 minutes. When the competition hots up it comes down to the team that can do that best.”

Taurua said the Vixens strength was working together as a collective unit, and it was something Lightning was conscious of leading into the Round 14 clash.

“Each individual has a role to play and they do that really well, but their strength is in how they work with each other.

“Vixens is a team that doesn’t cough up the ball much. The players are very methodical, very disciplined and clinical.

“They don’t have many errors and given they’re playing on home soil, I think they’ll put out a good performance this weekend in front of their fans.”

“It’s important we put forward four solid quarters of netball so we come away with as many bonus points as possible.

“Our focus is on going out and doing what we do best. Playing all four quarters and aiming for the full eight points.”

Lightning will take on Melbourne Vixens at Hisense Arena this Sunday 5 August in the final match of the home and away season. The match will be broadcast live on the Nine Network and Netball Live app from 1pm AEST.
