Hunt Named Temporary Replacement For Hinchliffe
Promoted squad Member Maddie Hinchliffe is set to spend a short stint on the sidelines after sustaining a foot injury in the Sunshine Coast Lightning affiliated USC Thunder season opener last week.
Hinchliffe was elevated to the senior squad for 2021, after impressing throughout the pre-season campaign with her skill, composure and work rate.
Long-standing Lightning Training Partner Binnian Hunt has been promoted to the squad of 10 as a temporary injury replacement player, with the Suncorp Super Netball season commencing this Saturday 1 May 2021.
Hunt is a dynamic player who can fill roles across the shooting circle as well as Wing Attack.
The 23-year-old made her SSN debut with Lightning last season as part of the Queensland Hub extended squad and looked comfortable at the higher level.
Head Coach Kylee Byrne was highly sympathetic to Hinchliffe after working so hard to secure the senior elevation but is confident Hunt will compliment the team in the opening rounds.
“Maddie is so deserving of this opportunity, so to see her sustain an injury before Round 1 is devastating, but I’m certain we will see what she has to offer out on court later this season,” Byrne said.
“This provides us with another opportunity to invest in Binni’s development which is really exciting for the Club.
“The depth not only in our squad but in our Training Partner program and beyond is a real strength of this Lightning team and is an endorsement of our wider development program.”
More information on Hinchliffe’s prognosis and expected return will be available in due course, in consultation with the Club medical team.
