Hinchliffe Rewarded With Senior Spot
Sunshine Coast Lightning has endorsed emerging athlete Maddie Hinchliffe, today promoting the midcourter to the senior list as an injury replacement player for 2021.
A devastating knee injury prematurely ended Ashlee Unie’s season last month, which opened the door for Hinchliffe to be elevated.
The promotion to the squad of ten was reward for effort after making an immediate impact within the Lightning environment, joining the Club in the off season.
Lightning Head Coach Kylee Byrne was thrilled to fill the vacant position with an athlete already inside the Club’s elite training environment.
“Maddie has worked immensely hard since joining our Club and it is pleasing to now grant her this opportunity to play at the higher level and elevate her game even further,” Byrne said.
“While we’re disappointed to lose Ash for the season, Maddie is highly deserving and will be a strong asset to our team.
“I see so much potential with her ability to read the play and her strong workrate and can’t wait to see what she can deliver both on court and as part of our wider squad.”
The 22-year-old is no stranger to the demands of professional netball, having previously been a Training Partner within the Queensland Firebirds program.
Hinchliffe is capable of playing both Wing Defence and Centre and will add versatility to Lightning’s lineup.
“I’m honoured to be given this opportunity with Lightning – it’s something I’ve worked so hard for over the years,” Hinchliffe said.
“For Kylee and the coaches to put their faith in me is so exciting and now I can’t wait to get out on court and contribute to the team.”
The midcourter made her Suncorp Super Netball debut for Firebirds in 2019, when elevated to the senior squad for one match.
