Dynamic duo re-sign with Lightning

In a coup for the Coast, Lightning is thrilled to announce the re-signing of Premiership coaches Noeline Taurua (Head Coach) and Kylee Byrne (Assistant Coach) until the end of the 2019 season.

Both coaches have played a key role in establishing the Club and building the strong culture that saw the team reach unprecedented heights, winning the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) competition in 2017.

Lightning CEO Danielle Smith said “Noeline and Kylee have established a strong bond and work extremely well together.  Their unique skill sets complement one another, and it was important to have both re-commit to the Club together. What they were able to achieve in such a short period of time has been outstanding and both are an important part of our future.”

Smith added, “Noeline’s impeccable coaching record speaks for itself, and Kylee is a head coach and strategist in her own right. The two together form an imposing team.”

“With less than 50 days until season two of the SSN competition commences, the commitment from our coaches reaffirms the long-term direction of the Club. For our members, fans, athletes and broader stakeholders, having Noeline and Kylee at the helm is an extremely positive outcome, particularly leading into the 2019 player contracting period, as both coaches are held in such high regard by the players” Smith continued.

Head Coach Taurua said, “2017 was an extremely challenging but rewarding year, and I’m proud of what the Club has been able to achieve. I’m excited to see how we can build on our foundation as we continue to push netball to new heights and am delighted to have Kylee by my side.”

Both Lightning coaches are exceptionally passionate about the community and have supported the Club’s strong emphasis on local engagement. The duo recently launched a coaching ‘masterclass’ program, which sold out in just 24 hours.

Byrne said “the support from the community has been overwhelming and we are so grateful to have such passionate fans behind us, particularly given the Club’s short history. To sell out our first coaching program in only 24 hours, far surpassed our expectations and it just goes to show the strength of netball on the Sunshine Coast.”

The team will travel to New Zealand tomorrow for a pre-season tour, playing two matches against NZ Premiers Southern Steel for a trans-Tasman battle against Taurua’s former side.

Sunshine Coast Lightning 2018 memberships are available at sunshinecoastlightning.com.au with members receiving exclusive benefits and most packages providing priority access to home game ticketing.  The SSN season commences on 28 April, with Lightning playing its first game against the GIANTS in Sydney on 29 April in a grand final re-match that will be broadcast live on the Nine Network.  Lightning plays its first home game at USC on 12 May.
