Coach Calls For Fans To Descend On USC Stadium
“We NEED everyone at USC Stadium.”
That’s the clear message from Head Coach Kylee Byrne ahead of Sunshine Coast Lightning’s home game against West Coast Fever next Saturday night.
Back-to-back games in Melbourne in Round 1 and 2 means it has been a long-awaited return to USC Stadium.
Byrne said excitement was building with the knowledge that playing in front of the home crowd is just a week away on. Saturday 15 May 2021
“It’s been a long time,” Byrne said.
“We have been on the road for the first two weeks – to know we are coming home to a packed stadium will do wonders for us and our preparation.
“Knowing our family, our Members, our fans are going to fill this stadium is what we want and what we look forward to.”
Lightning’s home crowd is known to be the loudest in the competition and Byrne believes that adds a level of competitive advantage.
“A full USC Stadium gets in the mind of our opposition, so we need everyone there,” she said.
“We need everyone to be loud – especially against Fever. Let’s do everything to put them off their game.
“Who knows what the season also holds, we’re calling on all of our Members and fans to come out and support Lightning.”
Former Queensland Firebird Mahalia Cassidy is also excited to play her first official game at USC Stadium in Lightning colours.
The midcourter confirmed USC Stadium can be daunting venue when part of an opposition team.
“It is going to be my first home game because I’ve only played here as an opponent and it is terrifying,” Cassidy said.
“It’s great we get full capacity this year – to fill the stadium and intimidate our opponent is something I’m really looking forward to.”
