Byrne’s Australian 21/U Coaching Panel Revealed

Netball Australia has today announced the extended coaching panel for the 21/U Australian side, led by Sunshine Coast Lightning Head Coach Kylee Byrne.

Byrne, who has held the position since 2019, will be joined by Origin Diamonds Specialist Coach and former Australian Captain Michelle Den Dekker and current Netball Victoria Coach Cathy Fellows.

The coaching announcement has been named in advance of a five day High Performance training camp commencing on 14 March 2021.

Participants from both the 21/U squad and the Australian Development side are set to attend as part of the wider Australian pathways program.

Byrne said she was eager for the athletes to converge in March, as preparations ramp up for the Netball World Youth Cup, slated to take place is Fiji in December 2021.

“I am thrilled that our athletes and coaching staff will come together as a squad in March to really focus on the development of our emerging Australian talent, who will only benefit from an intensive training environment,” Byrne said.

“Holding a camp in one location was something that we were unable to do late last year and yet it provides such a vital foundation for what we want to achieve in the lead up to the Netball World Youth Cup.”

Netball Australia today also revealed GIANTS Netball’s Julie Fitzgerald has been reappointed to coach the Development Squad and will work closely with Byrne in the execution of the elite training camp.

The location is yet to be determined by Netball Australia, as they seek to limit logistical complications due to potential border closures, with the destination to be announced closer to the date.
