Byrne Wary Of Swifts’ Spread Of Talent

Sunshine Coast Lightning Head Coach Kylee Byrne is wary of NSW Swifts’ versatility and positional depth heading into Sunday’s clash at USC Stadium.

While Lightning have utilised their entire squad of 12 across the first three rounds, Byrne said the Swifts ability to change the look of their line up at a moment’s notice makes them difficult to prepare for.

“They are unpredictable at the moment and have great depth in their squad, they have the ability to cover all positions with two or three options and that makes them dangerous,” Byrne said.

“The Swifts have been rotating all 12 or even 13 and 14 at some points.

“Having that opponent on you and knowing how to nullify them will be really important this weekend.”

Similar to Lightning, the Swifts line up has not changed dramatically year on year, after winning the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball Premiership.

Sunday will be the first time the two teams have met since that Grand Final battle, which was almost one year ago.

“They’ve retained most of the roster and they’re still running on confidence,” Byrne said.

“They know they have that Premiership and they certainly want to defend it – they’re not going to be easy at all.”
