Byrne Reveals Australian Squad Set For World Youth Cup Campaign
Sunshine Coast Lightning Head Coach Kylee Byrne has announced a 24-strong Australian squad in her dual role as the U21 World Youth Cup Coach.
The squad announcement is in preparation for the Netball World Youth Cup to be held in Suva, Fiji in June 2021.
Byrne was impressed with the spread of talent coming through the Netball Australia pathway.
“The future of Australian netball is looking very bright with the calibre of athletes myself and the selectors were presented with during this process,” she said.

“It’s exciting to be kicking off our World Youth Cup campaign with such a strong squad and I’m really looking forward to working with this group over the next 19 months to bring home that Cup in 2021.”
Former Lightning squad member Sarahpheinna Woulf has been named in the team, after an impressive 2019 season playing for the Club’s Australian National League (ANL) affiliate, Territory Storm.
In 2018 Woulf was named in Lightning’s 10-player squad, before a devastating ACL injury ended her season prematurely.
The squad will partake in a four-day training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Friday 14 February 2020, before additional selection decisions are made in August.
The smaller squad will then tour Fiji in the back end of 2020, where they will play several matches to prepare for the international competition.
10 out of the 18 current Samsung Australian Diamonds squad members played in a World Youth Cup tournament earlier in their careers.
