By The Numbers: Lightning Impress In Vitality Netball World Cup
By the numbers, the wins, the emotion… whichever way you look at it, Sunshine Coast Lightning’s own representatives were successful in the Vitality Netball World Cup.
There of course is the outright result, with Coach Noeline Taurua and Captain Laura Langman’s Silver Ferns defeating Stephanie Wood’s Samsung Diamonds by the smallest of margins in the Gold Medal Match.
There’s Player of the Tournament Karla Pretorius combining with Phumza Maweni in SPAR Proteas’ defensive end, helping take their team to their first semi-finals berth at a World Cup.
Or Peace Proscovia captaining the Ugandan She-Cranes to a record breaking seventh standing.
But even looking at the stats individually there are some impressive numbers that the Club’s players were able to notch up in a gruelling and closely contested tournament.
Ten days, six games plus finals, Lightning players combined for 265 goals, 201 goal assists, 38 intercepts, 72 gains and 51 deflections.
Talk about impact across all areas of the court.
