GEVA MENTOR

Sleep in or up early?

Did someone say sleep?! I’m all for game day naps, actually naps in general. Probably because I’m an early bird, I always wake up early. I’m one of those people who sets an alarm and wakes up five minutes before it goes off!

Game day breakfast?

It actually varies; I’m not a big game day eater, which means I’ll try to get whatever I can into my tummy. Sometimes it’s yoghurt and granola, sometimes it’s simple pancakes or even cold porridge, but less likely now I’m based on the Sunny Coast.

How do you spend game day?

When at home, I like to get down to the beach for a dip or at least just to breathe in the air. I’m fairly chilled so quite happy to lounge around or nap.

Nervous or excited before a match?

I get soooo nervous before a game, which is probably why I struggle to eat and just want to chill out and sleep. For me, the nerves are something I’ve learnt to handle over the years and I know that as soon as I step onto the court I’ll be OK because the beauty with team sports is you’re not alone.

What’s in your kit bag?

EVERYTHING! You want a marker pen, I’ve got one. Need an ice pack?  Yep. Forgot your shower gel? It’s in there! If you need deodorant or mint, I have it.  There are probably two items that stand out from others that are must haves in my bag and they are my old school diary and a bottle of cordial.

Favourite pump up song?

I’d rather put on some classical music and I’m really enjoying “Primavera” by Ludovico Einaudi. My favourite all time song is “Pony” by Ginuwine.

Speak or silent in the changeroom?

Quiet, I’m quite happy to sit back, observe and just soak up the atmosphere my team mates bring to the room.

Key message before the match starts?

With my role as Captain, it’s about addressing the group, making sure the messages are clear, we are all on the same page and importantly the girls are fired up ready to step out on court and do their thing.

Most exciting thing about playing netball?

The people you get to meet, the friends you make and the memories you create. To be able to ride the highs and lows of sport with a unique group of extraordinary people fills me with so much joy and happiness.

Post-match recovery?

Not a fan of ice baths, but who is! Therefore the recent relocation to the Sunny Coast has provided me with a fantastic alternative. So beach recovery it is and if any of my teammates can make it, even better. And if massageS were to be an option, I’d certainly put my hand up for a bit of that as post match recovery!
